Lapidary and Silversmith
Club Spotlights
Jewelry Design With Wire Design and create your own artistic jewelry using the wire-wrap method. Wire wrapping evolved from the challenge created when wanting to use odd shaped stones – they were hard to set! With wire, that challenge is eliminated and the free form aspect of design takes over. Last February, 8 men & women from the Green Valley Lapidary and Silversmith Club, took their talents to a more structured level. They brought in wire jewelry artist Dale Nichols, from California, for a three day hands on seminar. Beautiful earrings, rings and pendants were created by the participants – (see the accompanying photo). They were now not only wire-wrapping stones but creating beautiful jewelry using wire only. A variety of metal wire types were used including: copper, fine silver, sterling silver, gold and 14 karat gold filled. There is now a “team” of 10 – 15 men and women, within the club, that teach beginning, intermediate, and advanced classes throughout the year. These classes are available to all members of the Lapidary Club. For information on all classes available through the Green Valley Lapidary and Silversmith Club please check their website: http://www.gvrlapidaryclub.com.
